Towards good environmental status in the marine environment in 2020

The Marine Strategy Framework Directive adopts an ecosystem-based approach to the marine environment, in connection with the Habitat, Fauna and Flora and Birds Directives and the Water Framework Directive. It aims to maintain or restore the correct functioning of marine ecosystems (preservation of biodiversity, correct interactions between species and their habitats, dynamic and productive oceans) whilst ensuring the sustainable use of the sea for future generations. Closing of the 3rd International Marine Protected Areas Congress Technical Sequence, Marseille

Organized by the French Marine Protected Areas Agency and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the 3rd International Marine Protected Areas Congress (IMPAC3) was held on Oct. 21-25 in Marseille, whose City Council was one of the congress partners. Press release - Creation o f the Coral Sea natural park - 23 april 2014

The decree for creating the Coral Sea natural park was adopted on April 23, 2014 during the convocation of the Government of New Caledonia.

High Seas MPAs in the Northeast Atlantic in the Northeast Atlantic

This brochure presents Marine Protected Areas that have been designated in waters beyond national jurisdictions by the OSPAR Commission. This document recalls how these MPAs were created, and the consequent recommendations for their management.
